Peggie Hampton

Mrs. Peggie Sue Hampton passed away on September 9, 2025, leaving a space in her family’s hearts that can never be filled. A native of Elkhorn, West Virginia, she was the eldest daughter of the late Cornelia (Lee) and Otis Watkins. Peggie began her college studies at Bluefield State College and later transferred to Temple University, where she earned her degree in 1958. In 1959, she relocated to the DMV area and soon became a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Deanwood.

In 1968, she married Charles Hampton, and together they raised two sons, Timothy and Ivan, who were the lights of her life.

Peggie joined Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church in 1992, where she was an active member of the Golden Agers Committee. Known for her strong spirit and determination, she forged her own path in life. She was an avid bowler with the WIBC league, traveling nationwide to compete in tournaments with her teammates. A passionate sports fan, she especially loved cheering on her beloved Washington Commanders.

Peggie also had a fondness for jigsaw puzzles, particularly those with Coca-Cola themes, reflecting her favorite drink, and enjoyed outings to the casino with her friends. A talented baker, she was known for her lemon meringue pie, sweet potato pie, butterscotch pie, and banana pudding, always generously sharing her treats with neighbors.

With a heart full of kindness, Peggie was always ready to help those in need. She left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community.

Peggie leaves to cherish her memory her son Ivan (Tosha); her sister Gloria (Jack); grandchildren Cierra (Brandon), Thomas, Timothy, and Tyler; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her son Timothy, her husband Charles, and her sisters Deloris and Margaretta.
