Milous Mayes

Milous Mayes departed this life, December 24, 2024, after a strong battle with a long-term
illness. Born to the late, James and Jennie Mayes, February 8, 1963, at DC General Hospital,
Washington, DC. He was the 5th of 10 children. He is proceeded in death by his older
brother James Edward Mayes “JO”.

At an early age, Milous loved fixing, repairing, upgrading anything and everything,
especially his love of cars. He attended District of Columbia Public Schools and received his
high school diploma from Spingarn High School. Immediately following graduation, he
enlisted into the US Air Force. He was trained as a Masonry Specialist and honorably served
as a Staff Sergeant from April 1981 to March 1987.

Milous enjoyed learning various trades, from working in communications to teaching at the
Quality Business School. Throughout his many years, he became known as the Master
Mechanic of Automotive Repairs, a true jack of all trades and a master of many. He was sure
to exceed all expectations of any problem he faced. Milous worked alongside his father and
brothers at 7Sons Auto for many years. Later he ventured out to start his own business
7Sons Towing, LLC with his partner Hercules, the name of his tow truck.

Milous accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was a dedicated member of Mt. Ennon
Baptist Church since July 2022.

He was a genuine family man, a firm believer in the importance of putting family first.
Milous made sure the family came together no matter what issues arose either big or small.
He was front and center at the drop of a dime when anyone called whether to congratulate
you or teach you a lesson. Milous’ voice was powerful, and he had a heart of pure gold.
Milous will truly be missed.

Milous and Roslyn’s love story began in 2006 on Q Street in the alley behind his mother’s
house. Roslyn’s car needed several repairs, so her cousin introduced her to the
neighborhood’s expert mechanic, Milous. At first sight, he said, “I’m going to marry her”,
and told Roslyn she was going to be his wife. They instantly became good friends and got
married in July 2013. To honor God and their relationship, their number one rule was to
always pray together before they started their day, and the second rule was, always
communicate no matter what, good or bad, because a lack of communication leads to
grounds of separation, and Milous was not having that.

Milous was Roslyn’s Boaz. He consistently thought of ways to express his affections in their
marriage that showed the magnitude of his love. There was nothing Milous would not do
for Roslyn, her son, Stephen, her mother or anyone in the family. After they were married,
he told Roslyn, give me 5 years and I will buy us a house. They moved into their home in the
summer of 2017 and when they received the keys the first thing Milous did was yell THANK
YOU JESUS! That was his favorite phrase. He always dreamed of having his own house and
sharing it with his family and friends. Milous and Roslyn hosted holiday celebrations, summer cookouts, Halloween parties and movie nights in the backyard. She loved it and
she loved him.

Milous leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Roslyn Mayes, his daughter, Tiana
Harris “Short Cakes”, his son Milous Mayes, Jr. (Simone) and stepson Stephen Galberth; two
grandsons Brandon and Kairo. His siblings, Brenda Minor (Kenny), Deborah (Melvin),
Stephen, Joanne, Cornelious (Beverly), Anthony (Tonya), Gary (Marisa), Joseph, and
Anthony Avents. Two surviving uncles, Willie Mayes of Gaffney, SC and Clinton Baxter of
Shelby, NC. A host of nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews, cousins; and his best
friend, Joe Bruce (Robin).

“Milous was my Milee. He was my best friend. He was the best thing that could ever have
happened to me and my son. He was my encourager. He was my number one fan. He kept me
going. He let me know I can do anything I put my mind to. He loved me for who I was. Thank
you, God, for allowing me to experience True Love. Thank you, Milee, for choosing me.
