LAWRENCE, Lue Jane, age 90, a long-time resident of Washington, D.C., and devoted wife of the late Garfield J. Lawrence passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022. Although Lue and Garfield had no children of their own, a special parental-like bond was formed with their great nephew, Anthony Lawrence, who cared for them both until their subsequent passing. Lue worked in a cleaners for many years in the DC area until her retirement. She was very astute about saving money, but she also loved to go on bus trips to the casinos. She also loved to host the family’s weekly Bid Whist get-togethers . Lue was also a devout member of Metropolitan Church, where she continued to send her tithes and offerings even when she could no longer attend on her own. She is survived by three nieces—Claudia Harris, S. Marlene Darnaby and Dr. Diane Akers; two great nephews—Anthony Lawrence and Cornell Cuffey; five great nieces- Catreena Cuffey, Rochelle Cuffey, Ramona Wilcox, Natasha Miles and Amber Harris; a host of great greats; and a goddaughter, Camille Anderson.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for all the prayers and love shown to Lue from friends, family and especially her in-home care providers who helped make her time as comfortable as possible. Peace and love!
