Joseph Wilson

Joseph Earl Wilson, ("Joe Joe"), son of Charlotte Robinson and Joseph Earl Cofield, Sr. was born on April 21, 1973, at DC General Hospital and received his crown on December 1, 2024, at George Washington University Hospital.  

Joe Joe was born and raised in the City of Washington D.C. all his life. He received his education in the D.C Public School System. A true thoroughbred Washingtonian who loved listening to GoGo music, especially Rare Essence. While he loved all things D.C he also developed a passion for traveling the world, going out to eat and creating memories with his family.  

His spirit was the epitome of a Gentle Giant someone that possessed great strength and power but used it with kindness and humility. For that he was well respected and loved by all but surely nobody loved this kind-hearted gentle giant more than his boys because when Joe Joe loved, he loved hard. On the other hand, he was also known as King Petty and the best way to disrupt the peace of this gentle petty giant was to correct one of his kids at a family gathering or touch his cake because one thing is for certain he didn’t play about his boys or his sweet tooth.  

Joe Joe also loved sneakers, designer sales, and had impeccable fashion sense. He just couldn’t resist a good bargain. Smooth and Confident. So smooth some called him “Black Ice” and so confident he could compliment everyone in the room including himself wearing the biggest grin. Laughing at his own jokes was his specialty. He loved talking with family and friends and showing off his latest gadgets and gizmos from jewelry and shoes to Dirt Bikes, motored scooters and mopeds. A passion he and his brother inherited from their father Earl and Uncle Butch. His children also share this passion for exotic toys. It’s certainly a Wilson Thang!  Did you know Wilson men also have a love for fish, reptiles, jewelry and are the greatest bootleg movie collectors of all time? They’ve never missed a box office release! 

Joe Joe resided with his Fiancé Essence Reaves whom he won over with his smile, and charismatic nature. Just recently they purchased a home together in the native streets of DC and together they learned to do their own home renovation projects with their uncle Butch - the carpenter - on speed dial. He had various jobs throughout his adult life but he loved working security. The atmosphere was fitting for his personable and playful personality as he loved to meet new people, some who he would later become family. He was so “Top Flight” that he just recently started an LLC and established a Security business called “Collaborative Efforts”. He was like the Jefferson’s moving on up. 

But all in all, Joseph was an amazing father and his greatest love of all was his children. He was present for every birthday, 1st day of school, doctor’s appointment and even the barbershop visits. There wasn’t anything Mr. Mom wouldn’t do for his family. He will always be remembered by his bright white smile, and his sense of humor.  

Joe Joe leaves to cherish a wonderful life, filled with the love of family and friends. He is survived by his father, Joseph Wilson, Sr.; fiancé, Essence Reaves; his children: JameilRussell, Zy’aire Wilson and Jaasiel Wilson; his sisters, Tameka Proctor and Dominique Mason; his brother, Gregory Wilson; his Aunt, Janice Wilson; Uncle, Oscar Wilson (Michelle), and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.   He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Robinson; Son, Joseph Wilson, Jr..; Grandparents, Oscar and Alberta Wilson; Uncle, James Wilson and Aunt, Laura Burgess. Rest easy Joe Joe for the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.
