Gerard Webb

Born on August 1, 1955, Gerard Eric Webb was the third of four children born to the late Grady and Evelyn Webb. On Monday, March 24, 2025, Gerard peacefully transitioned to eternal rest.

A proud native of Northeast Washington, DC, Gerard was raised in the Woodridge neighborhood, where he attended Woodridge Elementary, Taft Junior High, and graduated from McKinley Tech Senior High School in 1973. During his childhood, he played baseball with the Woodridge Pioneers under coach Mason Clark and spent countless days playing with neighborhood kids, many of whom became lifelong friends.

After high school, Gerard attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, where he pursued higher education. While at Paine, he balanced his academic studies with his love for baseball as a member of the college team and also worked part-time at the Augusta Country Club.

There’s a saying: “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Gerard found that calling on May 24, 1985, when he began working as a Bus Operator for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), widely known as Metro. He took great pride in his role, forming bonds with passengers, wearing the Metro uniform with honor, and mentoring new operators. Over the years, Metro became more than just a job — it was a community he cherished. Gerard also served with distinction as a Shop Steward, Executive Board Member, and Delegate to the International Convention for the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 689, where he was a staunch advocate for fairness, equality, and workers’ rights.

Even after retiring in March 2016, Gerard’s passion for transportation never wavered. Alongside his close friend Johnny, he co-founded Good Times Productions (GTP) LLC, a transportation business that operated a 55-passenger bus and brought joy to countless travelers on local and national trips.

Gerard’s spiritual walk began early, attending Saint Paul Baptist Church as a child. Upon returning to DC from Georgia, he joined McKendree United Methodist Church to worship alongside his family. In May 2013, he became a member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, MD, where he found a welcoming church home and actively served in the Transportation Ministry.

A proud Prince Hall Mason, Gerard was a member of Ionic Lodge 17. He also enjoyed membership in several organizations, including the Corvette Club — where he proudly showcased his sleek black Corvette — the Metro Softball Club, and the Men NE Brunch Fellowship, where he reconnected with childhood friends.

Gerard was the epitome of someone who loved life. Whether it was road trips for fishing, cheering on loved ones at their events, or traveling the world on cruises, he found joy in every moment. A devoted sports fan, he rooted passionately for the Washington Nationals and loved taking his nieces and nephews to games. Above all, he was a die-hard Washington Redskins/Commanders fan, holding season tickets for many years.

Known for his warm hospitality, Gerard often brought people together, especially around the grill. He was famous for his barbecue ribs, grilled chicken, and legendary fried turkeys — a staple at many Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.

Gerard will always be remembered as a man of unwavering character — selfless, generous, and supportive. With a heart of gold, he was a pillar of strength and love to many. To his cousins and friends, he was a brother in spirit. To his nieces, nephews, and so many others, he was a beloved father figure and “Uncle Gerard.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Evelyn Webb, and his brother, Roscoe Luther.

Gerard leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted sisters, Deborah and Denise (Dennis); five nieces, Nikcola (Jerome), Leslie, LaChelle, Denita, and Stanisha; one nephew, Lawrence Jr.; three great-nieces, Deyjah, Kyrah, and Nikayla; three great-nephews, Isaiah, Curtis Jr., and Kyler; honorary nephew, Rev. Nicholas Young; godsons, Delmar and Edward; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
