Dollie Sims

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there

Dollie Ruth Sims was called home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2025, at the
age of 90 years old, in her granddaughter’s home in Midlothian, Virginia.
Dollie was born on July 3, 1934, in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Dollie and Robert
“Preacher” Clark. She lost her mother at a very young age and spent her childhood
helping to care for her younger siblings. She attended Southview School in Cordele
from elementary through high school and then went to Gillespie-Selden Institute School
of Practical Nursing. To further her nursing career, she moved to Washington, DC,
where she took classes at George Washington University and worked at various
hospitals in the Psychiatric and Pediatric departments. She later accepted a position at
Washington VA Medical Center, where she faithfully served for 33 years before
retiring.
Dollie married the late Robert Lee Sims, and they had three children: Charles
Miles, Joanne Monique (who both passed away shortly after birth), and Nicole Jeanine
Sims.
Dollie love God and dedicated her life to serving Him, her family, and the
members of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a loyal and faithful member. After
retirement, in addition to helping to raise her grandchildren, she was a devoted
volunteer for various ministries in her church. Whether it was singing in the choir,
attending Bible Study, or volunteering with Children’s Church or Sunday School,
Dollie was always eager to participate and lend a helping hand where needed. She also
loved to garden and travel.
Dollie was predeceased by sister, Mary Helen Kelly and brother-in-laws, Thomas
Kelly and James McLeod. She leaves to cherish with loving memories always her
beloved daughter Nicole J. Sims (Tracey), granddaughters Joanne Sims and Khariyah
Halls, grandson Samuel Johnson, sisters Barbara Jean McLeod, Frances Thigpen (EJ),
and Virginia Harris (Ronald), brother Robert Clark (Louise), nieces, nephews, other
family members, and friends.
Dollie will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, kindness, enduring strength,
and unwavering support for those she loved. Her legacy lives on through the lives she
touched and the family she cherished so dearly. Her memory will forever be engraved
in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Trinity
Baptist Church, 1900 Beechwood Road, Hyattsville, MD, with Pastor Phillip Hurst
officiating. Burial will follow in National Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery.
