Corky McCorkle Obituary

Corky Devlin MCCorkle  was born on March 14, 1958 in Washington, DC and departed this life on October 11, 2024 in Adelphi, Maryland. At the age of 12, his family moved to Silver Spring, where he attended Paint Branch High School. Although he excelled in many sports, football was his number one choice.

As a linebacker on 2 state championship teams, he was awarded First Team All Met and went on to excel on the Montgomery College team before attending Howard where he became a team captain. Upon graduation, Corky became a graduate assistant coach while working on his Master’s degree in Sports Administration and Business. Through his journey, he formed many unbreakable bonds that still exist today.

Corky’s life was dedicated to sports and he was a diehard fan of the Washington Football franchise, which was a reflection of his loyalty and passion.  In 1982, Corky began his career with the Montgomery County Recreation Department, where he used his creativity and people skills to win over youth and adults,

as a Recreation Specialist and as a Center Director. Many were inspired to learn skills in such sports as Archery, soccer, hockey and many more. ,In 2012, Corky was awarded the 30-year Service Award and went on to retire in 2014. Among his many pursuits, he became an Assistant Football coach at Montgomery College for a brief period of time. Corky was also a Coach in the Boyz N2 Men, Rite of Passage Mentoring Ministry where he was well-respected and loved. There his impact helped men develop such things as survival skills, which many would not have known, and helped young men discover what it takes to become Godly men.

After his retirement from Montgomery County Recreation in 2014, he started his very successful Archery business and continued his legacy of teaching young and old.

As we come together to remember and honor him as the loving friend, son, brother and father he was, we thank you for celebrating his remarkable life with us. He connected with people from all walks of life and left an impact on many. Your presence here brings great comfort to us during this time of remembrance.

Corky leaves behind his wife of 25 years Adrienne, his daughter Adanna (Jen), his son Devlin (Keara), and one of his greatest blessings and joy, his grandson Khy”Mir and his sister Arveece.
