Charles Henry Brooks “Bob” was born to the late Rosa E. Wells Brooks and Charles Brooks at their home in Collington, MD (renamed Mitchellville) on June 7, 1931. For 89 years, he worked hard, was known for his giving spirit, belief in God and love for his family. He attended school in Prince George’s County Maryland at a segregated school attached to St. Mary’s church. Bob was raised and baptized in the Catholic Church. In his early years, he worked alongside his father and older brother on the family farm in Bowie, MD. Retired from Glendale Hospital after 25 years of services and Colonial Moving and Storage and Mr. Myers after 15 years of service and continued to work with the Myers family many years beyond retirement.
Bob was a key fiber in the thread of his family. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and life partner of 60 years' Dorothy Brooks (Tootie), his ex-wife turned friend Adell Hillyer; his children Charles (Iggybar)(spouse Levita); Vivian (Susie); and Gloria (Vickey) who preceded him in death; Theresa Jones (Tee) (spouse Carl, deceased); Rita; and Mark (spouse La’Tonya). His sisters Geraldine and Mary (Baby Sis), and his brother Jerome (Boomoose). His youngest sister Bernice, and brothers John (Jack), James (Jim), Sam, Melvin (Bernie), and Philip all preceded him in death. Bob also leaves to mourn his passing, 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, in-laws, and friends.
With Tootie, his beloved wife and life partner of 60 years, their children, and grandchildren by his side, he transitioned peacefully on the evening of July 8, 2020.
